I am still getting hit with verbal attacks from so called grass roots organizations in skid row for my support of the larger well funded organizations. All I have to say is these people do not have the wherewithal to help those people such as women and children in skid row with housing, food, clothing and work training and employment. It is important to understand that when one is truly an advocate you advocate responsibly and understand that there are other organizations that provide the services that are needed.
Recently one of these community organizers has attacked the Mission. For the Midnight Mission to take me inside their organization is a big risk for them. I have had the nerve to point the finger at Anita Nelson for her negligence and abusive treatment of her tenants at SRO Housing Corporation and as a result was given a 30 day notice as a form of retaliation. The Midnight Mission knows very well that if I would take on my own landlord there isn't any reason I wouldn't put them out on blast if they did something that was negative towards their clients... thus far , I haven't witnessed anything terrible, they are not perfect, but they run a well oiled program with all participants engaged to the point the participants feel a ownership. These guys work hard on their recovery and for the community.... if only this community leader could see how this organization and even it's program participants provide services to the whole community, they would be amazed,,, but this person prefers to criticize something he knows nothing about and accuses myself and others of not doing for the skid row community... in reality this person has sold out because he does not defend the community from those who would prey on it.... those who deal drugs and those who only want to run these non-profit organizations to just network and move on to bigger and better things. I personally am wondring if that person is just doing things for himself as an opportunist..
Being a community member in skid row involves both criticizing and working to better improve those organizations for the betterment of the community and not at the expense and to the detriment of the safety of those who need the services in skid row.
