For some odd reason when I heard news that my childhood friend was killed in a car accident I thought of another friend we used to get together with and sing this song and others. We were all a bunch of christian rednecks. Didn't drink , smoke, use drugs and searching for wives and not whoring around. Richard Feagin introduced me to the world of anime. HE went on to beome a master karate instructor. Who would have thought. He was a close friend that helped me work out lot's of questions I had in puberty. Girls and all that. Kept us out of trouble to be two guys who were waiting for the right girl to marry. HE leaves two young children and a beautiful wife. None of the renditions of this song on the internet even come close to the ozark type of twang we used. I can still sing like that. Raised on that Southern Baptist Gospel Music. I will give alist of my favorites. We used the banjo a lot.
This is not my home
On the wings of a dove- this is the version I remember growing up
Let's all go down to the river
These two remind me of me and my friend. Him playing the banjo and me sleeping. We both ran cross country so some evenings we spent the night together. Had to get up at 4:30 in teh morning as I was also the cross country manager. His house was closer to the High School and the College than mine. Had a ist lt. in the corps who was from arkansas and he played the banjo it was great to sneak into the rec room on the weekends when the other officers were out and we all had a makeshift bluegrass band. Oficers couldn't hang out with the enlisted. We did it though and he always like dot play another favorite of mine
Will the Circle be unbroken- these guys do it well. NO banjo, but the base sounds great.
I'll fly away- See you soon my good friend!!!! God still hasn't seen fit to take me home yet. Gotta lot a things to do.
