While the cameras were turned away , this former marine just wanted to thank the Mayor and give him a hug.

I searched through ton's of my photos this year and I can tell you this one stuck out like s sore thumb , primarily because it wasn't a photo op, and because the Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa , was comforting a marine and the cameras were busy somewhere else.

Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate Gordon Turner visits skid row on election day

Gordon Turner does make it to skid row on this election day. He was at San Julian Park passing out flyers and speaking to voters. Some voters got excited and asked for handfuls of flyers to begin to pass out to voters on the Nickel.  Someone had passed out flyers last night , apparently, because there were already flyers all over skid row when he arrived.
