WHy webmasters like the MIdnight Mission website and despise the Union Rescue Mission Website

Many greedy webmasters despise Content Management systems such as the Union Rescue Mission Website. Why? It is obvious. If I build a website that can be maintained by the client I can't charge exorbitant fees to update the website whenever they need to have the content changed.

Today we have learned that having a static site , like which is up at the Midnight Mission website is not conducive to the new way we do things in the internet . People like to be updated on what is happening. A static site does nothing but sit there. You go there once , see the same things , and why go back ?, same ole same ole.

Interactive sites are the wave of the future. Take the Union Rescue Mission website for instance. You can go there and the content is constantly changing. We get to see photos of the steak lunches ,we get to see ourselves in photos if we volunteer , we get to hear and see the president of the union rescue mission let us know what is happening and we hear him in video and his blog let us know what the needs are. We get it it from the horses mouth. And we get it quickly. What is also neat about syndication of things such as Andy's blog at URM is that we can subscribe to a feed that allows us to be updated in our e-mails or at our blog reader of our choice.

Living downtown and understanding that politicians hate blogs , well, I know that blogging has a bad connotation. But a blog is nothing but a website that is constantly updated by the client themselves. It was the blogs that have made the open source content management system movement possible. Wordpress is now used to build CMS websites, I use drupal simply because of it's power , and there are many others.

The facts are these. IF any organization is to survive one must release themselves from those who have gimmicks such as SEO . Hey, I can teach you how to optimize SEO , a child can do that. It is no longer just about SEO. It is about building whole communities around these websites and allowing the client to be able to update their website in a timely manner without doling out ton's of money and thus having to wait for the content changes.

I have many clients and don't have a website. Simply because I would be overwhelmed , my clients are word of mouth and soon I will be teaching people how to build their own CMS websites and be able to use SEO and other items without the HTML knowledge.

Gimmicks, gimmicks , gimmick. What are needed are solutions and the URM has found the right solution. Content Management system.

Amen. More non-profits need to do what it looks like Union Rescue Mission is doing. The "high end" content management systems are basically a racket/scam. The web is about getting content out right away in the easiest way possible, and old corporate content systems are just old overpriced tech.

Thanks for this article. It's cool to see a non-profit doing this. More need to.

For my dear friend Richard Feagin - Sifu Richard Feagin

For some odd reason when I heard news that my childhood friend was killed in a car accident I thought of another friend we used to get together with and sing this song and others. We were all a bunch of christian rednecks. Didn't drink , smoke, use drugs and searching for wives and not whoring around. Richard Feagin introduced me to the world of anime. HE went on to beome a master karate instructor. Who would have thought. He was a close friend that helped me work out lot's of questions I had in puberty. Girls and all that. Kept us out of trouble to be two guys who were waiting for the right girl to marry. HE leaves two young children and a beautiful wife. None of the renditions of this song on the internet even come close to the ozark type of twang we used. I can still sing like that. Raised on that Southern Baptist Gospel Music. I will give alist of my favorites. We used the banjo a lot. This is not my home On the wings of a dove- this is the version I remember growing u...

Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate Gordon Turner visits skid row on election day

Gordon Turner does make it to skid row on this election day. He was at San Julian Park passing out flyers and speaking to voters. Some voters got excited and asked for handfuls of flyers to begin to pass out to voters on the Nickel.  Someone had passed out flyers last night , apparently, because there were already flyers all over skid row when he arrived.

To those who think that Marijuana has never killed anyone

Update: once again marijuana used by sexual deviants to assault young teenagers who skipped school. When officers arrived, the men were gone, he said. "It looks like this house was not lived in," Taylor said. The girls told police they met the men at the Paseo Colorado mall on Colorado Boulevard, where they were playing hooky from school, he said. The men then invited the girls to the Idaho Street house, he added. Once there, the men brought out alcohol and marijuana and gave it to the 14-year-olds before sexually assaulting them, he said. Marijuana is addictive and it is also plain fun for many young people . John Wayne Gacy used MArijuana to lure young men into his home Jeffrey Dahmer used marijuana to lure young men he killed into his home Jaime Green, who lives at the Southern Hotel operated by SRO HOusing Corporation, uses his medical marijauna to lure young males to his room to molest them...and he is a registered sex offender that has to register e...
