Blogdowntown makes bid for the Los Angeles Times

According to sources , blogdowntown has made a bid in the billions for the Los Angeles Times. Rumors are that Ed Fuentes will be named as the CFO of the new latimesblog.com... With the downturn in their revenue, the LA Times has seen dramatic cuts in employees and circulation of Southern California's largest newspaper. Let's see if this pans out. More news will be forthcoming here at the Central City East Blogger.....

Los Angeles Theater Center attacked at Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council Sustainability committee meeting

Welcome to the new downtown. One of the participants at the meeting , participating in the create your own urban space game , said that the LATC was a wasted space. There was huge applause after he said that the NEW LATC was a waste of space. The person seemed very ignorant of the policies and the reasons why certain developments were created the way they are. Anyway that is the person in the photo above who said that the LATC was a waste of space.....

Shoes arrive from NIKE in skid row downtown los angeles

WOW!!! Who would have thought that NIKE would help the residents in skid row help themselves. A hand up for those who have struggled to create from the grassroots opportunities for themselves to acquire the tools they need to help them increase their ability to stay healthy and confident. They didn't have to beg to the larger entities in the community for these things, and realized the fruits of their labor , which has brought back their sense of self-respect and dignity , which will only increase. Thank you NIKE. Mary Bedrossian I like the shoes , they are proper and cool. I am glad I ripped open the box like it was christmas . Kieron dj ‘ol skool This is a well constructed shoe, This is a nice shoe good with a good fit, it will help with hops on the court and it has nice fit. I like the strap because I don’t have to worry about accidents and hurting my ankle because of the good ankle support. The strap on the high tops keep the shoe strings in place and gives the added su...

just coping

Ah!!! Addicts... they are so insecure. They are insecure. Putting up even with case managers that feel that their power is threatened. They know I am ill and sick , but this is why I dread living in these places. People with mental illness, those who get along with gays, and those of us who have multiple physical illnesses are always picked on by these people.... They can't mind their business most of the time. I am doing my best to save money and I have surgeries coming up - minor- and I know that living at the Midnight Mission is the best place to be , but dealing with people who think that you are not deserving of anything, speaking down to you in front of others living there, to make it seem that you are not being productive and also making it seem that the rules don't apply to you to stir up resentment from the addicts in the building, well that is childish.. I have been filled with prednisone intravenously , I have a chronic demyelinating condition that flares up and ...

I knew provisional ballots didn't count, now I know they may not count, or they just might m ake a difference this year...

I used to get irate at poling places when poll workers would tell me that they could not find my name on the rolls. I wanted my vote to count. I am now learning from the LA Times that provisional ballots are now just being counted. How the heck can the news outlets , etc and the websites that tell us that 100 percent of precints have reported , then they announce that someone won, and just now, I am learning that my provisional ballot did not count. My goodness!!!! I am one of the people that voted for measure B ....... It seems to me that my vote should be counted. The one time that I decide to vote provisionaly,, trusting the process and my vote may have not been counted....What is wrong with these people? It would be interesting to note that Walter Moore may wind up in a runoff with the Mayor or Gordon Turner could have gotten those votes.... Only in America......

NIKE to donate shoes to skid row 3on3 basketball leauge

Downtown Los Angeles ... Once again, General Jeff, with issues and Solutions, and a resident of skid row , has come through for the people living in skid row. General Jeff's philosophy has been one of motivating and inspiring the residents of skid row to know that they can use their own initiative to get the things that are needed for the community. Self-reliance and showing that people living on skid row can do their part and meet others half way in showing they are worthy of a hands up and not a hand out.... congratulations to General Jeff. ---- Forwarded Message ---- From: General Jeff To: ryan@DowntownNews.com Sent: Wednesday, March 11, 2009 5:49:08 PM Subject: Skid Row gets shoe donation from NIKE March 11, 2009 To all, It has just been confirmed today that the Skid Row 3on3 Streetball League will receive a shoe donation as promised by NIKE. Burbank residents fight homeless shelter

Click on to make larger; News from Aady Bales , the CEO of the Union Rescue Mission, one of the largest homeless missions in the country, gives us news that Burbank residents are fighting to get rid of the Winter Shelter at the armory in Burbank. The residents in that area are using the NIMBY arguments and fear mongering arguments that there are sex offenders and other type criminals roaming the neighborhood. QUOTE FROM Andy Bales at his facebook page: Grief in BurbankShare Today at 4:24pm I’m saddened that our guests are being generalized as criminals, addicts and sex offenders when the truth is that many are plumbers, carpenters and writers--out of work and homeless for the first time! We have also had 23 families from the Burbank area arrive at the Winter Shelter seeking refuge. Many of these families have recently become unemployed, foreclosed on or evicted. And nearly 50 percent are experiencing homelessness for the first time ever! After the devastating circumstance of losing a h...

some thoughts

Well, time to get busy. I am meeting with a law firm tomorrow to present them with my proposal for their new website. It is crazy to think I have gone from living in a room that was kiling me literally , to out there trying to put a business together. The reason; we all know the reason. I gotta put people to work.....we have to also save small businesses. SO I am up..... These are the times that we have to get up and do as much as it hurts and as much as it might take us sacrificing our own selves to see to it that ourselves and our neighbors can put food on the table... I am so grateful for the Midnight Mission and Orlando Ward and Kathy Ward and Larry Adamson who stepped up to the plate to help me in my time of need. This is a rehabilitation program for drug and alcohol abuse, I don't use drugs or drink, and I am so grateful that I am on a modified program. When I first arrived in January I had to take a urinalysis , of course it is because the Midnight Mission doesn't allo...

Congratulations to my Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa

Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate Gordon Turner visits skid row on election day

Gordon Turner does make it to skid row on this election day. He was at San Julian Park passing out flyers and speaking to voters. Some voters got excited and asked for handfuls of flyers to begin to pass out to voters on the Nickel.  Someone had passed out flyers last night , apparently, because there were already flyers all over skid row when he arrived.

Downtowners voting against Jack Weiss , Gordon Turner being supported by sro residents

I went to 4th and main today and spoke with people and they asked me who I was voting for for city attorney. I asked first who they voted for. Well , with the most utter disdain in their facial expressions ,many people said not Jack Weiss , many said that they had voted for Carmen Trutanich, and then, as if they weren't sure what that person's campaign was all about, went on to ask me what I thought about their preference, and I said I don't know . Many stated that they just wanted to vote against Jack Weiss. One Person even told me why they voted against him and that was because during the aclu settlement and the fight over proposition 41.18 d JAck Weiss was on the side of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in making downtown los angeles the only place in the city where people could camp out on the sidewalks from 9pm until 6am . That person went on to say they were offended that a man of Jewish faith wanted to create a ghetto in a place that could not handle all of those p...

Vote yes for measure B

Vote yes for measure B. Measure B is an important first step in bringing green jobs to the city of los angeles and allowing our Municipal Power company the ability to begin the process of removing us from the main grids that are causing much pollution.  Read what Ed begley Jr. has to say about measure B.   It will create green jobs in southern califronia .

the apocalypse is upon us or what the you know what

The History Channel will be airing a show about the predictions of the year 2012. Many of us already know that there is a large community out there aware of the mayan calendar, the predictions of nostradamus, and other sources claiming that the end of the world is going to happen in the year 2012. Have we had enough of all of the ravings and ramblings about the end of the world? Yet, now the History Channel is in the business of promulgating this information with their new show : Nostradamus and 2o12 . I wonder if the end of the world as we know it is the result of the entropic decline of intellectual science and the scientific method for discovering the realities of the universe? Or is there something to all of these warnings.

more trays for the Midnight Mission

Word is that the Midnight Mission went to their warehouse and dug out trays to augment the trays that are used in the cafeteria to feed the people of skid row and the rest of los angeles that come to eat.  The Midnight Mission , just like all other non-profits across the nation , are having to do more with less. SO the trays were a great addition that will allow the volunteers keep up with the guests who come to eat and serve them quickly and with dignity and respect as they have always done and will continue to do....
