Downtown Los Angeles...
Once again, General Jeff, with issues and Solutions, and a resident of skid row , has come through for the people living in skid row. General Jeff's philosophy has been one of motivating and inspiring the residents of skid row to know that they can use their own initiative to get the things that are needed for the community. Self-reliance and showing that people living on skid row can do their part and meet others half way in showing they are worthy of a hands up and not a hand out.... congratulations to General Jeff.

Subject: Skid Row gets shoe donation from NIKE
March 11, 2009
To all,
It has just been confirmed today that the Skid Row 3on3 Streetball League will receive a shoe donation as promised by NIKE. The drop-off will take place tomorrow at 10 a.m. The location will be at U.C.E.P.P.- 804 east 6th Street, immediately next to Gladys Park where the Streetball League plays its games.
U.C.E.P.P. has volunteered to hold the "seven big boxes", as described by Alicia Procello, NIKE's rep that not only is facilitating the shoe donation, but also facilitated the installation of the brand new basketball court which happens to be the home court of the Streetball League.
Ms. Procello confirms that she will indeed be there to help deliver the boxes as will Patrick Escobar of the LA84 Foundation, whose organization also partly funded the basketball court.
This is part of the continued support that was agreed upon during the planning process of the Gladys Park renovation project, which combines private funds and city funds, the first of it's kind in Skid Row.
The continued support was a major point that was stressed at the planning meetings by Skid Row activist and DLANC member General Jeff. "It was important to me that NIKE and the LA84 Foundation not do as others have done in the past by briefly touching(coming to) Skid Row and then quickly leaving", Jeff said. "We wanted to make sure that continued support was part of the overall project so that the community could see and feel that Corporate America does in fact care about us. This would help to build confidence and boost self-esteem in an area where not alot of positivity exists."
The majority of the shoes will be passed out on Saturday at the park when the Skid Row 3on3 Streetball League plays it's games. The women's division usually start at 10 a.m. followed by the men usually starting around noon. If all the players don't show up this Saturday, the shoes will be passed out every following Saturday until all the players that signed up for shoes get their issue.
