This ussually means the winds will follow suit and increase over the next few hours. A Hurricane Warning is now in effect from Cameron, Louisiana to the Alabama/Florida border. This includes the city of New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain. A hurricane warning means that hurricane conditions are expected in the warned area within the next 24 hours.
Hurricane Gustav is a Category 3 hurricane with winds of 115 mph. It is possible that Gustav will intensify during today and a cat 3 is quite likely at landfall. At this time, the center of Gustav is about 200 miles southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River. A storm surge of 10-14 feet is still possible in locations as Gustav makes his expected landfall on Monday Morning. Conditions will start to deteriorate overnight and hurricane force winds are likely along some coastal locals beginning around midnight. Major flooding is possible in locations, along with heavy rainfall, and isolated of tornadoes.
