One thing is for sure . The excitement is great on the stretch of Main Street that the Nickel will be on. One reason is that many people know Monica and can't wait for her to open up that diner. They are all claiming that it will be clifton quality food. Not being able to afford the prices on 4th and Main and other establishments around the area also has the Leonide and the Sanborn residents excited because now they can enjoy quality food in their own neighborhood they can afford. Speculation is that the Nickel will be inexpensive. But the people are looking forward to not being malnourished because the only food around they could afford for many of them has been processed food. Now they can eat healthy.
I hope Monica takes into consideration the many sick people in those buildings who need items that cater to their illnesses such as high blood pressure and diabetes. This is what is needed. The good stuff too. All I Hear from the people even this far into skid row is that they will be able to go and eat breakfast. Pancakes was the first words out of their mouths.
The biggest response was when I told the people that Monica would be working at the Diner not just owning it and a few people's eyes got wide because they are glad she will be there.
Many people in the skid row area love Monica. She has street cred and is very nice to all of her clients.
Remember , I will be watching though. We have to see how they treat those with leases in the Non-profit SRO's when they utilize the spot. But knowing that one of the servers from Banquette will not be coming there to work, that was another thing that went well with my interviews with people that live in those hotels. They want Monica to be there and others.
They just can't wait is what I was told...

I realize lots of people swear by Clifton's but I find it beyond too salty and oily.. and practically unedible. IMHO only though.. I still go there mainly cause I get sucked into going with people who still swear by the place. ugh.
Anyway.. looking forward to Monica's place opening soon also! =)
