Homelessness is 24 hours a day 7 days a week, but even when you go to the LAHSA website you will see that they say only from 8 am until 5pm will they provide emergency services for people who find themselves needing those services. Anxiety fills my body when I write these things , but it is the truth. There is a dog and pony show going on that certain entities want the world to see regarding skid row. They don' want you to see that the out of control Mardi Gras on crack is still happening. Yesterday's' skid row watch walk proved to me and many others that if you want to get sick due to the densely filled atmosphere of second hand crack, weed , and cigarrette smoke, all you have to do is stand outside near San Julian Street between 5th Street and 7th Street.
I have been notified that as long as I tell the truth I will have readers. If I water things down and sugar coat what is happening in skid row, no one will even read this blog because I live here 24 hours a day 7 days a week and am expected to tell the truth about what is really going on.
I have walked the streets of skid row from 4th street to 7th street and from Central Avenue to Main Street and Even walked all the way to 9th street on the east side of skid row from midnight until 5 am in the morning and not once did I ever see the LAHSA outreach team anywhere. To try and pull these smoke and mirror tactics over the eyes of those who live in skid row and who can can document is pretty ridiculous.
If we truly want to end homlessness we need to stop allowing the government agencies, those whom we donate to to get away with doing the bare minimum only because they do feed the people and provide shelter at night.
If anyone wants a tour of skid row during the hours when the mardi gras on crack is still happening. BY all means contact me. We can also take a tour in the early morning hours and see if we can spot the LAHSA outreach teams in skid row looking to get people off of the streets. Of course, we won't see any of that at all. They only work from 8 am until 5 pm.

Thank you for vocalizing the perennial challenge - and for offering meaningful solution to the public service needs of men, women and children in Central City East. You're a good man Don, and our City as a whole is a better place when we pause now and then to appreciate and understand it through your eyes.
Respectfully Yours in Safety and Service,
