Andy Bales President of the Union Rescue Mission speaks up at Safer Cities Hearing at Los Angeles Police Commission on behalf of those who have died
Andrew Bales spoke on behalf of those who are dead or severely disabled or brain damaged as a result of overdosing on drugs in skid row or who were murdered or suffer with debilitating illlnes because they were just thrown into the gutter to die.. Those who can not speak for themselves. Those who were preyed upon by the dope man and the over 30 years of no accountability in skid row for the non-profits who were just thrown money , but were never held accountable for how they spent it or if they were actually solving the problems in the area.
Those of us who were not members of a non-profit organization were only allowed one minute to speak at the police commission hearing. It might be time to sue the City of Los Angeles in denying the public opportunity to speak as long as those whom they perceive as the experts. It is the actual residents who live here who have two opposing views about the safer cities initiative.
Andy was shouted down by LA CAN after he spoke and even while he was speaking. But it goes to show you that there can be people with intestinal fortitude who can show the truth and things that have changed since the inception of the safer cities initiative.
If only I could have told the stories of some of those whom I know died as a result of the lawlessness in skid row and the allowing of it to be so. None of this will be solved until the people are allowed to speak about the flaws that these low income social service providers have. Andy Bales wasn't afraid to speak up about it when he brought forth the Issue of patient dumping and admitting that the Union Rescue Mission is not a hospital and can't take care of the severely sick. It will take more of us to speak up. But if the Police Commission and City of Los Angeles decides we can not speak on the subject then nothing will ever change. SO far there are only two articles being promulgated over the internet.
From now on I will be promoting a internet show and will be speaking on these issues so that residents can have opportunity to thank law enforcement for the good deeds they do and speak about the bad deeds they do also.
