For many, veterans day is a bittersweet holiday. Many veterans in this country call the streets their home. For many years, veterans in skid row, many disabled , had to travel far to places to participate in events that honored their service.

"Veteran's Day is an important opportunity to celebrate and honor the brave individuals who dedicated their lives to defending our way of life. It is my honor to be able to host these fine individuals here in the heart of Central City East. This special recognition is well-deserved and this is just a small way in which I can extend my gratitude and deep respect to each of them," said Perry.
The "Veteran's Day Luncheon" will assemble Central City East/Skid Row resources to honor the over one hundred veterans who live and work at SRO. SRO is hosting the event in the James M. Wood Community Center (JWCC), a safe and sober community space on what was once known as "Thieves Corner". A steak lunch prepared by the catering department of the Midnight Mission will be served and a live band will provide entertainment. A Veteran , who lives at SRO's Southern Hotel, which has 55 efficiency units of permanent housing for veterans, was instrumental in initiating the event. Council District Nine is funding the program.
