Fred Jordan Mission Thanksgiving Day Wrap up

What can you say about Thanksgiving day in skid row. The Fred Jordan has been serving their Turkey during the Day the Holiday is on. It was a beautiful day yesterday as we all prepared for the Fred Jordan Thanksgiving Day feast.DSC01369

God had blessed us with a beautiful day to give thanks and serve those who were without a Thanksgiving Turkey Day. The Fred Jordan Mission was prepared to serve as many as they could and they have the experience to make sure no one gets turned away. But this day over 500 people were turned away due to dwindling donations. They were expecting to serve 2500 people. But there were more than expected.

The Mayor Antonio Villaraiogosa arrived and spoke with the press and then he blessed the meal in English and Spanish. WOW!!!!

The singing was fantastic and fabulous as praise filled the air for the day and the thankfulness that Jesus loved the devil out of us with Laverne Tripp. DSC01461

I was so disapointed with the organizers at the Fred Jordan Mission for the handing of the Thankgiving Day turkey meal giveaway. I signed up as a volunteer and by the end of the day I regreted and was ashamed to have been a part of it all. The homeless and unfortunate persons who came, waited over 5 hours in line and when they finnally made it in, the media frenzy, hoopla and propaganda was so thick you could of cut it with a turkey knife. Once they were allowed to sit down they had to endure another 1 1/2 hours before they were able to eat. If the Fred Jordan Mission is going to feed the hungry, than feed them! Don't make them stand in line from dawn and then sit them down to listen to the mayor and other organizers self praise themselves while hundreds of families and homeless persons wait for it all to finish. Shame on the Mayor and the Fred Jordan mission organizers for calling more attention to themselves than to the cause of feeding the homeless. As I drove away disgusted at it all, I noticed a small soup kitchn feeding the homeless. No media frenzy, no propaganda, just humankind feeding humankind unconditionally.

Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate Gordon Turner visits skid row on election day

Gordon Turner does make it to skid row on this election day. He was at San Julian Park passing out flyers and speaking to voters. Some voters got excited and asked for handfuls of flyers to begin to pass out to voters on the Nickel.  Someone had passed out flyers last night , apparently, because there were already flyers all over skid row when he arrived.
